Staten Island is home to numerous forgotten, hidden, or unknown burial grounds. A Slave cemetery existed at the corner of Livermore and Forest Avenues. Immigrant cemeteries “thrived” at Saint George, Prince’s Bay, and Silver Lake. Institutional burial grounds were located at the former Farm Colony and Seaman’s Retreat. Abandoned burial grounds stand today at West New Brighton, Travis, and Oakwood. Little known secrets about these and other historic burial grounds
will be revealed. This talk will be followed by a tour of the oldest section of Moravian Cemetery with Richard L. Simpson.
