Fine Arts Federation Forms LPC Nomination Panel

THE FINE ARTS FEDERATION OF NEW YORK
FOUNDED 1895

Dear Constituent Organizations and Members of the Preservation Community:

Mindful of Chapter 74 §3020 2b of the New York City Charter, which states that the Mayor “may consult with the Fine Arts Federation. . .” on nominations to the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the Fine Arts Federation, representing over twenty leading New York City arts and civic organizations, intends to continue its important work in this area. To this end, the Federation has established a Landmarks Preservation Commission [LPC] Nominating Committee, similar in form to that of its Nominations Committee for the Art Commission of the City of New York.

The LPC Nominations Committee will serve as a clearing house for its constituent members and the greater preservation community, and will solicit names of potential nominees to the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The Committee will reach out to the Mayor, the Chair of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the Speaker of the City Council, and other interested representatives. Assisted by its constituent organizations, it will research the qualifications of leading contenders for possible nomination. With due consideration to the research and the input of all stakeholders, the Fine Arts Federation [FAF] Board will prepare a list of suggested LPC nominees to present to the Mayor of the City of New York. Insofar as the FAF’s recommendations are advisory, the Mayor may choose to nominate candidates other than those specifically advocated by the FAF, but we are confident that our efforts will yield a diverse array of committed, highly qualified candidates from all the five boroughs.

The FAF LPC Nominations Committee will be chaired by Michele H. Bogart, Vice President of the Board ([email protected]). Please contact Ms. Bogart with your questions, comments, or concerns.

We look forward to serving the preservation community and the city at large on this matter of vital significance.

Sincerely,

Tomas J. Rossant, AIA
President, The Fine Arts Federation of New York
