Bayside Historical Society, Historic Districts Council, and Queens Civic Congress on Thursday, October 22 will co-sponsor a free Preservation Symposium to discuss such preservation and land use issues as contextual rezoning, the landmark designation process, community facilities, and the effect that agencies such as the NYC Board of Standards and Appeals and the Department of Buildings has on neighborhoods..
The event will be held at 7 pm at the Officers’ Club in Fort Totten Park (Bayside Historical Society’s headquarters) and will feature a panel of experts, with discussion moderated by urban specialist Paul Graziano.  Among the panelists will be NYS Sen. Frank Padavan, NYC Councilmember Tony Avella, Kevin Wolfe, an architect and preservationist representing the Historic Districts Council; Christine Haider, a Community Board 11 zoning chair; and a representative of Queens Civic Congress.

The Bayside Historical Society is located within Fort Totten Park, in Bayside, NY, and is easily accessible by public transportation (Q13 or Q16 bus to Fort Totten) and by car:  Cross Island Parkway North to exit 32 (Bell Blvd.).  A New York City landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, the Bayside Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of Bayside and its surrounding communities and offers a variety of cultural and educational programs, exhibits and events for the community.  Visit the Society online at baysidehistorical.org.

The Historic Districts Council is the citywide advocate for New York City’s designated historic districts and individual landmarks and for neighborhoods and buildings that merit preservation.
