History Bike Ride: Explore the Famous Manhattan Street Grid at Night

Join Manhattan Bourough Historian Michael Miscione as he partners with the Five Borough Bike Club this Wednesday, November 14th, to lead a nighttime bicycle ride throughout Manhattan. The tour will explore – literally and historically — the creation and evolution of the 1811 Commissioners’ Grid Plan that defines much of Manhattan to this day. Even die-hard Gotham history buffs might be surprised to learn the obscure origins of the borough’s right-angled street pattern. The ride begins at 7pm and take off from the Plaza Hotel at 5th Avenue and 59th Street,

The ride is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is required. Bring your own street-worthy bike. Every rider will be required to have and wear a helmet. Front and rear lights are strongly recommended.
