Louis Sullivan: The Struggle for American Architecture

 Monday November 15

For the first time, the life and career of Louis Sullivan—prophet of the commercial skyscraper, pioneer of Modern architecture and acknowledged “master” to Frank Lloyd Wright—has been comprehensively brought to the screen. Following months of research that began in 2007, director Mark Richard Smith traveled the Midwest and East Coast to view first hand most of Sullivan’s surviving works. The experience shaped his commitment to presenting as vividly as possible the beauty of Sullivan’s architecture. The film delivers, with exquisite cinematography tracing building details and ornamentation not readily seen by the naked eye as well as expert commentary from Sullivan scholars.

Meet director Mark Smith and be among the first in NYC to see this award winning film!
