What: You are invited to particpate in this continuing legal education program—free of charge—for lawyers and lay persons on laws related to New York’s landmarks preservation process. Hear experienced preservationists and legal counsel describe how historic buildings have been saved and lost, and learn the legal tools that can be used to effectively preserve historic buildings for future generations.
This seminar begins with an overview of New York’s historic preservation movement and grassroots efforts to curb the bulldozer, followed by a detailed discussion of using Article 78 to challenge New York City administrative procedure. Other nuts-and-bolts strategies will be presented to assist lawyers, real estate professionals, civic organizations and private citizens in challenging the actions and operations of government agencies.
Participants will have an opportunity to network with seasoned practitioners who fight David v. Goliath battles—win or lose—to advance the cause of protecting our city’s architectural heritage.
