LPC Hearing for Upper East Side Historic District Extension

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission has announced a public hearing date and time for the proposed expansion of the Upper East Side Historic District!

TUESDAY OCTOBER 27th, 2009
1:15 p.m.

Join FRIENDS of the Upper East Side Historic Districts at the hearing and help save
Lexington Avenue’s irreplaceable and fragile architecture. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

FRIENDS of the Upper East Side Historic Districts has led an ongoing effort to expand the Upper East Side Historic District to include Lexington Avenue and the nearby residential side streets in the East 60s and 70s. In 2006, this architecturally significant and historically important district was named on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.

BUT WE’RE NOT THERE YET! We need the New York City Landmarks Commission to follow suit and designate this long overdue expansion. If approved, demolition and damaging alterations to this neighborhood will be prevented, while preserving its low scale, sense of place and historic architecture.

NUMBERS COUNT! Join your friends and neighbors in showing support for the expansion of the historic district. Members of the public are invited to speak but it is not required, the most important thing is that you attend and show your enthusiasm!

where: Landmarks Preservation Commission
1 Centre Street, 9th Floor North
New York, NY 10007

when: Tuesday October 27th, 2009
1:15 p.m.

If you cannot attend, let the LPC know you support the expansion by emailing LPC Chair Robert Tierney at [email protected]
