Take a short tour of this magnificent 1892 Romanesque Revival mansion designed by Montrose W. Morris.  You will see how beautifully this mansion and Poly Prep’s new building have been integrated.

 Highlights of the Tour include:

This inviting 1919 Neo-Tudor, one of the last single-family homes built in Park Slope, has a driveway leading to a garage in the rear, reflecting the emerging importance of the automobile in post-WWI life.  The formal pine dining table is made of antique floorboards from an English cottage.  A dramatic limestone-framed Gothic arch separates living from dining rooms.  On view are 13 spectacular, original tempera plates, “The Birds of the Seven Continents,” by Arthur Singer.  Don’t miss the stunning art deco bathroom, once coveted by The Brooklyn Museum.

An exuberant fabric wall covering, a coffered ceiling and built-in breakfront with leaded glass doors are features of the beautiful dining room of this 1903 Romanesque Revival home.  Separating the double parlors is elaborate woodwork with columns and original sconces with alabaster shades.  Two wonderful pieces by Italian designer Carlo Bugatti – a throne chair and beveled mirror – reside in the library.

A major renovation of this unusually wide 1886 Queen Anne has resulted in a wonderful combination of 19th century decorative elements as well as modern upgrades.  Lovely mantelpieces, each with a different design, are on view.  Wallpaper decoupage adorns parlor and dining room ceilings.  Rachmaninoff once played the piano in the front parlor.  French doors lead from a large and inviting kitchen, with a collection of old posters, to a south garden.

Understated elegance is the theme of this 1877 French Neo-Grec which has recently undergone a major renovation and a two-story addition at the rear.  Beautiful new wall-to-wall book cases are a highlight of the skylit rear parlor.  Triple French doors lead from the large kitchen to the bluestone terraced garden.

A 1909 Neo-Classical is full of surprises, with beautiful woodwork and plaster friezes contrasting with contemporary artwork by the owner.  A stunning collection of beautiful tiles forms a kitchen wall.  A grape arbor presides over the 3rd Floor deck.

A 1901 Neo-Renaissance home features a stunning kitchen, once the dining room, a successful solution to the challenge of retaining the original details of ornate carved fireplace, stained-glass windowed bay and built-in mirrored hutch while creating a modern, functional kitchen for a busy family.  Fluted ionic columns, parquet floors, paneled mahogany wainscoting, two sets of mahogany pocket doors and two of stained glass decorate the Parlor Floor.

A gut renovation retained the 19th century detail in this 1875 Italianate-Neo-Grec, but created a dramatic, contemporary interior.  Highlights include a handsome kitchen with a three-window bay and cast concrete countertop, a stunning black and white striped powder room and custom-made chandeliers made with antique crystals.
