Preserving New York – Then & Now; Symposium February 16, 2008

SAVE THE DATE! The New York Preservation Archive Project and the Museum of the City of New York announce the symposium Preserving New York – Then and Now, to be held on
Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Museum of the City of New York.

Call for Papers
The New York Preservation Archive Project is pleased to announce its call for papers for a one day symposium, titled “Preserving New York – Then and Now”, to be held on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Museum of the City of New York. The symposium will focus on issues that have inspired and shaped the preservation movement in New York City for nearly a hundred years.

Papers will be presented in panels, followed by a question and answer period. Proposals are encouraged that examine a range of topics, including, but not limited to:
• The role of the civic sector
• Individual preservationists
• Professionalism in preservation
• The role of the media
• Aesthetic regulation vs. historical commemoration
• Preservation advocacy and outreach efforts

Please submit single page abstract of your proposal by September 30, 2007 to

Selected panelists will be notified by October 15, 2007. It is the intention to publish selected papers on the NYPAP website, www.nypap.org. Please check the website for updates on the symposium.

Call for Media Materials
The New York Preservation Archive Project is pleased to announce a call for media materials for a Preservation Media Festival organized in conjunction with the one-day symposium, titled Preserving New York – Then and Now. The Preservation Media Festival be held on Friday, February 15, 2008 and will kick-off the symposium, which will focus on issues that have remained central to the preservation movement in New York City from the past to the present.

We are soliciting media materials, including, but not limited to films, video clips, songs, posters, and graphic materials that relate to the history or current state of preservation in New York City.

The submission of new and/or old materials (i.e. – historic film footage) is encouraged.
