Mambo to Hip Hop at the Boogie Down Bronx
Saturdays September 11 & October 23
Through a video exhibit at The Point Community Development Center, participants learn about the fascinating parallels between mambo moves of the 40’s and 50’s and the hip hop/break dancing phenomenon born in the Bronx in the 70’s. A walking tour of the Hunts Point area highlights the musical history of this fascinating neighborhood and offers opportunities to shop for Bronx souvenirs, including some of the music that got its start on these streets. Afterwards, visitors take part in a unique crash course in congas and other Latin percussion instruments and end their day jamming in the South Bronx!
Focus on the Bronx Photo Tour
Saturdays September 18 & October 16
Whatever your level of expertise, and however basic or fancy your camera is, you’ll take some of your best photos ever during this special tour, led by award-winning photographer-instructor and Bronx native Marisol Diaz. On-the-spot pro tips & tricks will ensure great shots of Bronx people, architecture, art, street scenes, and more. Tour includes admission to Wave Hill, a stunning public garden overlooking the Hudson River, and stops at the Lourdes of America shrine, the Hall of Fame for Great Americans, and the urban phenomenon of “casitas”– little houses built on community gardens to resemble homes in the Puerto Rican countryside.
Bronx EcoAdventure

Ecotourism in one of the country’s most renowned urban areas? Absolutely! The Bronx is the only place you can hike through the largest remaining portion of New York City’s original forest; come nose-to-nose with Western lowland gorillas; and canoe down the beautiful, reclaimed Bronx River with guides from the Bronx River Alliance. This memorable tour includes canoe rental and admission to the New York Botanical Garden, and the Bronx Zoo. There’s a lunch stop at famous Arthur Avenue, New York City’s true Little Italy. Under 16 must be accompanied by parent/guardian. Not suitable for kids younger than 12 years old.
Biking Through Bronx History

The Five Borough Bike Club leads cyclists on Bronx Greenway paths at their peak of autumn beauty. We ride through Bronx neighborhoods, cultural hubs and three of New York City’s premier parks. The tour includes admission to two of the borough’s most popular historic house museums, The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum and the Van Cortlandt House Museum for special narrated tours. There’s a break for lunch at City Island, a seaport community with a rich nautical history. Bike rental is included. Under 16 must be accompanied by parent/guardian. Not suitable for kids younger than 12 years old.
Ready For Your Close-Up? NYC’s Only TV Production Tour

Be part of the morning show studio audience at the Bronx’s popular, Emmy award-winning TV station, BronxNet. This special edition of the OPEN Show, hosted by “Diva del Barrio” Rhina Valentin, airs and streams live with lots of trivia prizes, musical performances, audience participation and more. The adventure kicks into high gear when the director yells “cut!”, and you take over the studio to produce your own show! BronxNet’s training crew leads a “fun, unusual and intense experience” with TV personality Baron Ambrosia that results in an original program co-produced by you and posted online that day. No prior TV production knowledge is necessary for this one-of-a-kind experience.
Tours are $65 per person, $55 for children under 12 and seniors (62+) and include rentals and admissions as indicated above. All tours make a fun stop for lunch, but the cost of lunch is not included. Tours depart from midtown Manhattan at 9 am and return at 4 pm. They take place rain or shine; however in case of dangerous weather conditions, The Bronx Tourism Council may reschedule the Biking and EcoAdventure tours. In that case, the tour price will be fully refunded or applied to a subsequent tour, whichever the guest prefers.
