Support HDC with an End of Year Gift!

As HDC looks back on everything we’ve achieved over the past twelve months, we’d like to thank our Friends for making 2007 one of our most successful years yet.

Just a few things we accomplished with your help in 2007:

Advocated successfully for the landmark designation of Sunnyside Gardens, Crown Heights North, and DUMBO (designated just yesterday!), as well as more than 20 other individual landmarks and historic districts.

Published “Frequently Asked Questions About the Landmarks Process,” a new guide that answers many questions about the process and dispels persistent myths about preservation.

Joined with other preservation groups to convene a citywide coalition for the first ever Preservation Lobby Day, where we successfully advocated for needed funding for the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

Held the 13th Annual Preservation Conference, “Preserving the Past, Planning for the Future,” which examined preservation’s compatibility with current planning trends like green architecture and smart growth.

Launched the League of Preservation Voters project beginning in City Council District 40 where we united a coalition of neighborhood organizations, hosted a candidate forum and produced a voter guide on preservation issues.

Publicized HDC’s “Heard But Not Designated” List, a list that in just two short years has dwindled down from twenty-one to twelve unprotected properties.

This coming year is going to be even busier. In 2008 we will expand our preservation efforts by implementing new educational programs, advocating for more neighborhoods, and providing community outreach with new tools and helpful publications.
