Update on West End Avenue preservation efforts

From the West End Preservation Society:

Some good news and an exhortation to keep making noise.

THE NEWS: Late Thursday afternoon, Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal called WEPS to tell us about a conversation she had had with LPC earlier that day. The conversation went as follows:

LPC said that the Side Street Survey is complete. An internal meeting of the LPC is scheduled to discuss which cross streets would be included in a district.

Linda said she was delighted to know this, but that the spine, West End Avenue, was ready and waiting, and should be acted on with all due speed, and LPC responded,

“We are aware, we get phone calls and we read the letters, we know the community is anxious to have this happen,” nonetheless,

it will be a couple of months before a hearing.

WEPSians! This is great news; the completion of the side streets survey means that next steps can be taken; we are moving forward.

However, we must continue to let our Electeds, and the Mayor, and Robert Tierney at the LPC, know: we want, and the Avenue deserves, and the neighborhood is anxious to have, WEA declared a Historic District.
