Words of Praise from Metropolis Magazine!

We were delighted to get a glowing write-up of our advocacy efforts in Metropolis Magazine! In a recent article, journalist Mason Currey spent some time on HDC@LPC and liked what he found. Calling it “an enlightening and occasionally amusing glimpse of the arcane world of New York City landmarks preservation”, Mr. Currey found the site “made it easy for any New Yorker to tap into the behind-the-scenes conversation about the city’s historic buildings.” Noting that we’re not afraid to “play the neighborhood curmudgeon”, he admitted to seeing how “HDC’s constant vigilance could frustrate some architects, developers, and homeowners trying to make improvements to landmarked buildings. (Hey, no one likes to hear that their white-stucco roof deck is a hopeless eyesore.) But mostly it makes me happy to see that there are groups out there working to prevent the piece-by-piece watering-down of the city’s historic architecture, one bracket sign at a time.“ Check out the article at http://www.metropolismag.com/pov/20100302/preservation-society and see what all the fuss is about at http://www.hdc.org/hdc@lpc/
