HDC was so proud to be at the marker unveiling for the Addisleigh Park Historic District! We stood alongside the LPC, state and city officials, Addisleigh Park Civic Organization (APCO), the New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation (NYLPF), and community members for this historic day.
Built in the 1920s-1930s as a suburban enclave replete with English Tudor-style and neo-Colonial Revival houses, by the 1950s, Addisleigh Park became one of New York City’s premier Black neighborhoods, home to renowned residents including W.E.B DuBois, Count Basie, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Jackie Robinson and James Brown.
HDC is proud to have worked with the Addisleigh Park Civic Organization (APCO) on the Addisleigh Park Historic District campaign – designated in 2011, and again in 2023, when APCO became a Six to Celebrate Partner. Just last year, Addisleigh Park also welcomed our Communities of Color Fellows, Urvi Patel and Cybil Bailey.
We thank the APCO for their continued support and we thank Urvi and Cybil for their work in getting Addisleigh Park designated on the National Register of Historic Landmarks! HDC, in tandem with APCO, will continue to hold events and programming dedicated to helping homeowners receive their historic tax credits and restore their homes.
